Connecticut Natural Gas

In the easrly spring of 2000, on a Saturday morning members of the East Hartford's State Legislative delegation, Mayor Larson, Don Griesdorn and town staff met at offices of BKM Enterproses to discuss the potential of an exciting project. Due to the development of Adriaens Landing, the offices, warehouse and maintenance facilities of Connecticut Natural Gas would need to find a new home and, so far, they had no luck in finding a suitable site.
---Their requirements were pretty straight forward: 70,000 - 80,000 square feet of office, warehouse and distribution space, with related parking; access to the State's major highways in order to serve their cutomers; oh, and they had to be in their new facility within 15 months.
---There was a lot of work to do and several sites were considered and reviewed. Finally, a site at 76 Meadow Street was selected as the prime location. There were issues. The site conteained an abandoned warehouse, which presented environmental concerns, the impact on the adjacent "class A" office space had to be considered; the development would require approval from both the Inland Wetlands Agency and Planning and Zoning Commission.
---In a letter dated September 21, 2000, Mr. Henry Thomas, ASLA, of The SLAM, Collaborative wrote "On behalf of CNG and out project team, we want to express our appreciation to the planning and development staff and the engineering department staff for their assistance and attentiveness during planning and permitting. Surely, a project with this visability and a schedule as demanding as CNG's would not be successful without that level of input and cooperation."
---At the end of July, 2001, CNG moved into the new facility at 76 Meadow Street. The building is located on 8.47 acres and includes 30,700 square feet of office, 43,000 operations space and parking for 335+ vehicles. It is a beautiful facility, which compliments the area and meets the needs of CNG.
